1. Choose a board

No matter what you decide to put on your barkuterie board you have to start with a board. There are a variety of sizes you can choose from and places to find them. You can easily source one from your local big box store or try a second-hand/thrift store.

However, if you don’t have time or want to spend the funds on purchasing something to make your barkuterie board opt for some things you have around the house.

Some ideas for boards are

  • Cheese boards
  • Plates
  • Cutting Board
  • Tray

2. Decide what you are going to put on your barkuterie board

  • Make sure that all of the items are pet-friendly
  • Try to make them all ready to eat in case your dog gets into it by themselves
  • Remove any garnishes prior to giving your dog the board

Some great items to include are

  • apple slices
  • Berries: Blueberries, raspberries
  • Banana
  • Sweet Potato (cooked)
  • Pumpkin
  • treats you made specifically for your dog. The treats we used on ours came from many of the recipes found on The Chew Chef

3. Size matters

Don’t make the board too large or too small. If you are having a party try to gauge how large the board should be from the number of guests bringing their fur babies.

4. Have minimal space

The trick to making your barkuterie board look great and appetizing is to not have a lot of space. It’s like a food collage and you want to use as much space as you can. Garnishes like broccoli heads are a great way to do this.

Also, as always speak to your veterinarian prior to feeding your dog anything from the barkuterie board if they are new ingredients
